By Air: Though the city has its airport within 25Kms reach near Barapani, but the connectivity from Umroi Airport is not quite regular with other parts of the country. Hence, the best alternate option is Lokpriya Gopinath Bordoloi International Airport, Guwahati. This airport is located around 125Kms away from Shillong. Once you reach Guwahati airport, you can hire cab or taxi to reach Shillong. Guwahati-Shillong road journey will take nearly 3 hours.
By Train: On account of mountainous routes, Shillong has no railway station and there is no railway connectivity to reach here directly. Therefore, if you are planning to visit Shillong by train, book your ticket till Guwahati Railway station, which is about 100Kms away from Shillong. Guwahati Railway station is well-connected to various major cities in India. From Guwahati Railway station plenty of buses (both private and public), cabs, Sumo and taxis run on regular intervals for Shillong.

The distance is around 100Kms via NH 40, and this distance can be travelled in 3 hours time by cab, bus and taxi from Guwahati. Bus fare between these two cities is around INR 150.
