The lamps are lit in the evening to welcome the Goddess into homes. Pathways and streets are painted with Alpana and Rangoli designs and devotional hymns are sung, as fruits and sweets are offered to Goddess Lakshmi.

The belief of this day is that Lord Vishnu distributes his energies through Shri Lakshmi’s Surya Nadi. Fire elements spread all over the universe in shiny golden particles which represent the presence of Goddess Lakshmi. The golden particles create conducive environment for spiritual worship. The Lord and controller of wealth come into the world and all hindrances are removed. Worshipers are therefore blessed with the ability to attract prosperity and wealth.
