Ram nagar is a famous city for Ram nagar fort. Ram nagar is a city in Varanasi UttarPradesh. That is a famous tourist place Varanasi. Ram nagar has a fort known as Ram nagar Fort which is still the residence of King of Varanasi (Benares). He was known as Kashi Naresh meaning king of Kashi (Ancient name of Beneras) and is still regarded by old residents of the city of Varanasi. It is located near the Ganges River on its eastern bank, opposite to the Tulsi Ghat.
Ram nagar fort was construct in 1750 through Kashi Naresh Raja Balwant Singh. Fort structure built with cream coloured chunar sandstone. It is in typical Mughal style of architecture with carved balconies, open courtyards, and pavilions. At present, The fort and its museum are the repository of the history of the kings of Benares. It has been the home of Kashi Naresh since the eighteenth century. The current king and the resident of the fort is Anant Narayan Singh, who is also known as the Maharaja of Varanasi even though this royal title has been abolished since 1971.
The Ram nagar fort houses a museum displaying the Royal collection which includes vintage Cars, Royal palkies, an armory of swords and old guns, ivory work and antique clocks. The Durga Temple and Chhinnamastika Temple are also Located at Ram nagar. A temple of Dakshin Mukhi Hanuman is there. Inside the giant walls of the Ramnagar fort-palace, there is a big clock.
This clock not only displays year, month, week and day but also astronomical facts about the sun, moon and constellation of stars. An interesting array of ornate palanquins, gold-plated howdahs and weapons are some of the artifacts on display in the Ram nagar fort-palace museum.
Ramlila Festival Celebration
Ramnagar Fort is the most famous place for annually celebrating the Ramlila (Dussehra) which helds in the month of October and finished on the last day of the Dashmi. People celebrate the festival Dussehra by burning the dummy of the demon king Ravana which represents the victory of good over evil.
The celebration starts in the presence of the King of Kashi and his family. King of Kashi comes into the fair by riding on an ornamented elephant. A famous festival named Raj Mangal is also celebrated at the fort in the month of Falgun. It starts at the Assi ghat by the parade of boats, then dancing and singing in the fort.
