1. Laxman Temple

It will be a possible day trip if you plan a trip to Sirpur. There is a 7th century old Laxman temple, one of the oldest brick temples in India. You will also find dozen other ruined Hindu and Buddhist monasteries dotting the countryside with many of them under excavation.

2. Anthropological Museum 

The Anthropological Museum in Chhattisgarh is an old-fashioned museum with a collection of artefacts from the tribal villages from the 1970’s and 1980’s.

You can get a cycle rickshaw from the town centre for Rs50.  Shared auto rickshaws from the Chitrakote Road junction near Sanjay Market cost Rs10.

3. Badrama Wildlife Sanctuary 

The Badrama Wildlife Sanctuary is situated 37 km from Sambalpur. This protected sanctuary has elephants, tigers, panthers and bears. It can be closed without any notice if the weather is bad.

4.Tribal Museum 

This tribal museum has an extensive collection of tribal culture including utensils, tools and clothes. One can also buy tribal paintings from here. Enjoy some delicious food at the open air Jungle restaurant.

5. Kanha National Park

Kanha National Park is one of the largest national parks in India. It is a huge park built in an area of 900sq.km.

6. Debrigarh Wildlife Sanctuary 

Debrigarh Wildlife Sanctuary is a huge sanctuary, located 40 km from Sambalpur. It consists of deciduous forest blankets from the Barapahad Hills down to the shores of the vast Hirakud reservoir, a home for migratory birds in winter.

You will get to see various wildlife like deer, antelopes, sloth bears, langur monkeys and if you are lucky, maybe tigers and leopards.
