Travel to Lansdowne – Unexplored Paradise in Uttarakhand

Lansdowne is a beautiful hill station located in the hilly state of Uttarakhand. Often described as a heavenly abode by some, Lansdowne paints a pretty picture amidst the Himalayas.

It is an ideal place for tourists who wish to get away from the crowded and overdeveloped noisy cities.

Lansdowne is known for its scenic beauty and its serene environment. The place is managed by the local Army Cantonment Board which manages and regulates the development in the town.

The town has been named after Lord Lansdowne, the then Viceroy of India who visited the place in 1884.

The famous landmarks in the town are the two churches which were constructed in the pre-independence era.

On a clear day, one can easily view the Himalayan peaks like Chaukhamba etc.

Visitors can come here throughout the year although May/June is crowded and it is difficult to find rooms during this time of the year.

Taking a stroll in the evening is relaxing whilst enjoying the nip of fresh air.

How to Get to Lansdowne:

Lansdowne is the nearest hill station from Delhi and is located at a distance of around 240 kms. from the capital.

National Highway 58 runs from Delhi to Meerut, and from there one can take National Highway 119 that goes all the way to Lansdowne.

It takes around 6 hours from Delhi to reach Lansdowne.

Kotdwar is the nearest railway station and the town is 40 kms drive uphill from there.

Direct buses and taxis are available from Kotdwar railway station up to the Lansdowne market; a shared taxi will charge you INR 50.

It is advisable to hire your own vehicle as this will enable you to visit the towns and temples nearby.

Santoshi Mata Temple (on your way to the temple, ask your guide to show you the tree with giant ear and the reindeer rock).

3.Hotel Garhwali Inn – This resort is situated at a wonderful location with rooms facing the valley.
