The Jolly Island
Being situated in the Mahatma Gandhi Marine National Park, this island allows its visitors to witness the gorgeous corals and experience recreational activities like snorkeling.
Previously, this was one of the islands of Andaman and Nicobar that has the reputation of housing the hugest and most veteran saw mill found across the entire continent of Asia. In fact, the dilapidated saw mill can be approached by virtue of a bridge.
This is also counted amongst the many islands at Andaman and Nicobar and is home to the solitary volcano in India that is active. It is quite petite in its dimensions (3 kilometers) and the vivacious volcano is located in the midst of the sea. It measures approximately a staggering 150 fathoms in its depth.
This island is blessed with a rich British heritage and houses a museum that displays snaps along with other crucial artifacts belonging to the British era. The name of the museum is ‘Smritika’.
The maiden jail was erected in this eventful island that has seen the ends of numerous convicts including Sher Ali who assassinated Lord Mayo, the Viceroy of India.
